Until We Find Home

by Cathy Gohlke

415 pages · First published 2017

In 1940, American Claire Stewart escapes France with five Jewish children just before the Nazi occupation closes around Paris. With nowhere else to take them, she seeks refuge at the Lake District estate of her estranged aunt, Lady Miranda Langford, who agrees to shelter the children if Claire remains to help. Claire’s romantic notions of resistance give way to the exhausting realities of caring for frightened children while war reaches even their seemingly secluded haven. Cathy Gohlke’s World War II novel explores courage, found family, faith, and the British home front, with literary figures such as Beatrix Potter and C. S. Lewis appearing at the edges of the story.
