The Thanksgiving Visitor
Classic short story
The Thanksgiving Visitor
Buddy treasures the Thanksgiving preparations he shares with his older cousin Miss Sook in rural Alabama. When she invites his school bully, Odd Henderson, to the holiday meal, Buddy feels that her kindness has become a betrayal. His response leads to an uncomfortable lesson in compassion and the difference between justice and revenge. This reflective short story suits older family read-alouds and readers who appreciate graceful language, complicated childhood feelings, and holiday generosity tested in practice.
