The Story About Ping
32 pages · First published 1933
Ping is a young duck who lives with his large family on a boat on China’s Yangtze River. Each evening the last duck to return receives a swat, so when Ping realizes he will be last one day, he hides rather than face punishment. His attempt to avoid one small consequence leads to a frightening night away from his family. Marjorie Flack and illustrator Kurt Wiese created a classic picture-book adventure about disobedience, homesickness, and discovering that a familiar discomfort may be preferable to being lost.
