The Sisters Brothers
In 1851, notorious brothers Eli and Charlie Sisters travel from Oregon City to California on orders from the Commodore to kill prospector Hermann Kermit Warm. Charlie embraces their violent profession, while reflective Eli questions the work, worries about his horse, and imagines a life beyond killing. Learning what Warm has discovered during the Gold Rush complicates the assignment and exposes how greed reshapes every partnership around them. Darkly comic and picaresque, this revisionist western suits readers who enjoy eccentric journeys, morally compromised narrators, brother dynamics, frontier absurdity, and stories in which the hired killers gradually become less certain of their employer than of the man marked as their victim.
