How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
64 pages · First published 1957
The Grinch lives above Whoville and despises the Whos’ noisy, joyful Christmas celebrations. Convinced that their happiness depends on presents and decorations, he disguises himself as Santa Claus and steals everything associated with the holiday. Christmas morning forces him to reconsider when the Whos celebrate anyway. Dr. Seuss combines rhyme, comic invention, and a famously sour protagonist in a picture book whose central discovery is that Christmas cannot be reduced to the things that can be carried away in a sleigh.
